MASTER PLANT CEREMONIES
ANDEAN COSMOVISION
HORSE RIDING EXPEDITION

3 - 13 July 2025
Chavin de Huántar, Peru

A deep dive into the Andean cosmovision,
landscapes & mysteries through the lens of Chavin Temple’s guardians. Adventure into the heights of the white Andes on a unique horse riding odyssey.

Nine days of thorough exploration of Andean cosmovision, landscapes, and mysteries through the lens of Chavin de Huántar's Guardians. Introducing ourselves and expressing our intentions as an offering to the land's spirits. In a ceremony led by Maestra Cecilia Chavin and her son Raúl, we work with the territory's master plant, Tsunaq, to reconnect with our ancient memories.

A four-day horseback riding odyssey across the highlands of the snowy Andes, guided by locals. Through storytelling, sound, and stillness. Contemplation and offering rituals to the natural temples of the Apus (mountain deities). We will get the opportunity to see and absorb the purity that these mountains emanate.

We will awaken the ancestral memories held in our bodies by merging with the landscapes and learning about their magical ways, sacred beverages, and ceremonies.

As we return to Chavin, Maestra Cecilia and Raúl will lead a Tsunaq Ceremony to complete our journey. During this immersion, we will be exposed to traditional Andean cuisine made with locally grown products that will help our physical and subtle bodies adapt with the heights and work with cactus.

Chavin Huántar Temple

Occupation at Chavin de Huántar has been carbon-dated to at least 3000 BC, with ceremonial centre activity peaking towards the end of the second millennium and continuing into the middle of the first millennium BC. The city's location at the headwaters of the Marañón River, between the coast and the jungle, made it perfect for the spread and collecting of both ideas and material goods, despite its relatively large population dependent on agriculture.

This archaeological site is a major ceremonial centre that has provided valuable information about the Chavin culture. Chavin de Huátar functioned as a place for the region's residents to assemble and worship. The transformation of the centre into a valley-dominating monument elevated it to a regionally significant location. People came to Chavin de Huántar as a centre to attend and engage in ceremonies, consult an oracle, or join a cult.

Tsunaq

The sacred cactus (known as "Tsunaq" in the Chavin region, as well as Huachuma and "San Pedro") maintains a special place in South American history, with a ceremonial tradition dating back at least 8000 years.

The distinct kind of Tsunaq growing in this area has a profoundly transformational character, allowing for a secure and grounded study of awareness and the healing process.

This Master Plant is a willing and powerful companion and ally on your path, offering guidance without imposing rigid limits. It gently nudges you to explore your limits in a sustainable way, increasing your presence and sensitivity to the areas of yourself that need caring, tending, and support, all while bringing fresh perspectives, new directions, and a greater sense of empowerment.

Our Journey

During our four-day horseback journey, we will pass through Huascaran National Park, which has Peru's top five highest mountains. We will ride the Qapac ñam (Inca trail) from Olleros to Chavin, which is one of the longest and most ancient trails in human history. Apu Huascaran, at 6.768 meters, is one of the territory's tutelar mountains and one of the tallest in the Andes.
